West meets East: MUSIC IN MOTION!

Although Indian Classical Music (Bharatiya Shastriya Sangeet) is based on the inner realm of artists - not just passing the notations or Cheez - now there's a different twist to this tale. Many who have dedicated their lives to Indian Classical Music, have always talked about
seeing the notes within themselves.

In their devotion towards music the notes (Swaras) became their lifelong companion. But it took a good amount of time before the notes granted the student a glimpse into their world.

But is it possible for a curious mind to look at the notes with open eyes before he can see them within? Yes! And lot of minds and hands have worked in making this possible. The project boasts of almost 100 Ragas and compositions.

It began in 1980's with the late Dr.Jamshed Jehangir Bhabha, the former chairman of NCPA (National Centre for the Performing Arts), Mumbai.

What began as a collaboration of NCPA and University of Amsterdam is now reaching its completion under the guidance of the project co-ordinator Dr. Suvarnalata Rao and Wim van der Meer(a musicologist from University of Amsterdam).

All this said, there is no alternative to Riyaz (practice) and seeing the notes within.
